Abstract
The aim of the article is to try to organize the nomenclature of rectal structures and diseases and to recall important issues that are so rarely discussed in public space.
In Polish proctology and surgery, incorrect nomenclature referring to the structures of the anorectal is still used, which causes many diagnostic and therapeutic misunderstandings.
Misdiagnosis of lesions may delay the diagnosis of neoplasms. The lesions untreated or poorly treated cause discomfort to the patient and can lead to neoplasms development in certain situations.
