Review procedure and ethical standards

1. All papers are accepted for publication after being reviewed favorably in accordance with the double-blind review principle. The review is based on a question sheet; the reviewer may also add comments. The reviewer shall notify the Editorial Board of any conflicts of interest between the reviewer and the organization funding the research presented in the paper.

2. The Editorial Board is responsible for decisions concerning the publishing of all contents featured in the journal; it operates impartially and is guided solely by the scientific merits of a paper (and also by the principles of humanitarian and ethics).

3. Any experimental research discussed in published original papers, which were conducted with the participation of patients and/or volunteers, or on animals, must be approved by an ethics committee. The principles of the Helsinki Declaration – Ethical Principles for Medical Research Involving Human Subjects of the World Medical Association (as of 2013) shall apply to all medical research involving human subjects; the Directive 2010/63/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 September 2010 on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes, the Act of 15 January 2015 on the protection of animals used for scientific or educational purposes (Polish Journal of Laws of 26 February 2015, item 266) with the relevant regulations, as well as the current resolutions/requirements of the National Ethical Committee on Animal Experimentation shall apply to research on animals.

The consent of an ethics committee is also required for research involving human biological material and documentation featuring patient identification data. Authors should include this information in the section „Material and methods”.

4. Conflict of interest: authors should provide information about the funding of research and the possible funder’s impact on the contents of a paper, as well as disclose facts about the author’s affiliation, consulting, paid expertise, etc. that may give rise to a conflict of interest.

5. The Editorial Board is of the opinion that adding a person as a co-author if they have not contributed significantly to the work or whose contribution was minimal (the so-called guest authorship), or failing to mention as a co-author or individually recognizing in the acknowledgements a person who made substantial contributions to the research are manifestations of scientific misconduct, and such cases shall be exposed.
